This friendly and interactive lesson is designed for young beginner ESL learners (Stage 2, ages 8-9). The theme People Who Help Us helps students learn about different community helpers and describe who they are using the affirmative forms of the verb to be (am / is / are).
The lesson combines vocabulary development, grammar practice, phonics focus (/ar/ sound), tricky word recognition, speaking fluency, and movement-based activities. Students progress from recognising helper jobs to confidently forming short, clear sentences.
Activities are highly visual, playful, and suitable for 1:1 lessons or small groups, online or offline. Learning is scaffolded step by step and ends with a fun review game to reinforce key language.
Key vocabulary: doctor, dentist, vet, postman, bus driver, shop assistant, lifeguard, cleaner
Students practise vocabulary through image games, catching words, quizzes, and speaking tasks.
