This engaging Stage 3 lesson (ages 9–10) develops cooking-related vocabulary while introducing adverbs of frequency (always, usually, often, sometimes, rarely, never) to describe habits and routines. Students practise forming sentences such as “I always steam vegetables on the stove.”, “I usually grill chicken in the oven.”, and “I often blend soup in a blender.”
The lesson also focuses on a key phonics spelling rule: when a word ends in “y”, drop the “y” and add “-ied” for past forms, using words such as carried, tried, cried, fried, flied, and studied. Through interactive games, speaking activities, and movement challenges, students progress from recognising vocabulary to describing habits using full sentences.
Target words: steam, grill, blend, sift, measure, ingredients, measuring jug, chopping board
Students practise vocabulary through hangman games, clue-based guessing, and recall challenges.
Students practise describing habits through dice games, timed sentence challenges, and percentage-based speaking activities.
Learners take part in “this or that” and “how often” activities, building sentences and expressing routines using full sentences.
70 lessons per stage, kids learning paths, per-child progress tracking and the full adult library.
