This lively, interactive lesson is designed for pre-intermediate ESL learners (Stage 4, ages 10–11). The theme Music and Instruments allows students to practise talking about music, comparing sounds and instruments, expressing opinions, and understanding song lyrics.
The lesson combines vocabulary building (musical instruments and music-related words), grammar focus (comparatives), phonics practice (-ed /t/ sound), tricky word usage (improve, include), and a wide variety of engaging, game-based activities. Learners are encouraged to give full-sentence answers, justify their opinions, and use comparative structures naturally.
Activities are interactive, visual, and choice-based, making them ideal for 1:1 or small-group online lessons. The lesson is scaffolded step by step, moving from discussion → vocabulary → speaking → grammar → movement → phonics & tricky words → games → review, ending with a fun quiz to reinforce learning and confidence.
Students begin by discussing music-related questions such as:
This builds confidence and fluency from the start.
