This lively, interactive lesson is designed for Pre-Intermediate ESL learners (Stage 4, ages 10–11). The theme Healthy vs Unhealthy Food allows students to practise talking about food choices, expressing opinions, comparing foods, and describing meals using appropriate vocabulary and grammar.
The lesson combines vocabulary building (food types), grammar focus (comparatives and superlatives), phonics (-ed /d/ sound), tricky words (heard, course), and a wide variety of engaging, choice-based activities. Learners are encouraged to give full-sentence answers, justify their opinions, and gradually develop fluency and accuracy.
Activities are interactive, visual, and discussion-based, making them ideal for 1:1 or small-group online lessons. The lesson is carefully scaffolded, moving from discussion → vocabulary → comprehension → grammar → phonics → fluency → creative production → review, and ends with a fun quiz-style recap to reinforce learning and confidence.
Speaking & Topic Introduction (Food & Opinions)
Students begin by discussing food-related questions based on images and prompts. Teachers expand each question to reveal visual support and possible answers, helping students build confidence.
