This lively, interactive lesson is designed for young beginner ESL learners (Stage 1, ages 7–8). The theme Toys introduces students to fun, kid-friendly vocabulary and helps them use the grammar pattern “This is my ____.” to talk about familiar objects. Phonics work focuses on the /ie/ sound using words such as pie, tie, die, and fries.
The lesson combines vocabulary building, speaking practice, grammar development, phonics training, and highly engaging game-based activities. Students practise short, meaningful sentences, build confidence naming common toys, and connect sounds to spelling through movement and interactive tasks.
Activities are short, visual, and energy-boosting—ideal for 1:1 or small-group learning, online or offline. The lesson follows a clear sequence from warm-up → vocabulary → grammar → phonics → games → review, ending with a fast-paced wrap-up quiz.
Students look at toy images and show thumbs up if they like the toy or thumbs down if they don’t. This warm-up activates prior knowledge and gets students speaking immediately.
Target words: ball, doll, kite, car, robot, drum
Students repeat each word and practise simple model sentences using the frame “It’s a ____.”
